Acer Aspire one 150 Fingerprint Reader Mod

Acer Aspire one 150 Fingerprint Reader Mod

by Carson

here is my Acer Aspire one netbook
I am going to install a Fingerprint Reader in it, so can keep me computer more security

here is the other side, the slot suppose to be 3G network card
but now, nothing, so we use this place to install a usb hub in it
because we want to keep all 3 original usb port as the same

now we have a plan, find a usb fingerprint reader, and then put it in the netbook, and done.
LOL, sounds really easy right? ok, let do it :)

first, i found the cheapest fingerprint reader on Ebay, cost me $12 include shipping fee
sorry about the picture, i forget take picture before i depart it, it's brand new when i got it
and then, become like this, hahaha

second, we need a smallest usb hub, which we can connect between Fingerprint reader and onboard usb port
this one i found it on ebay too, cost me $12 include shipping
it's small, i think it's perfect

ok, let's start
depart my Acer aspire one 150
try to find a enough space to put fingerprint reader in
here is the aspire one 150 motherboard

finally i found the perfect place, left side of the mouse
actually, it's bottom of left side
here is the picture
the green one is the fingerprint reader, from the Sandisk Profile USB

next is how it look like under the cover
you can see the bottom of left side

now, some people don't know how to get the usb on this motherboard
let me tell you, there is a available usb on the motherboard
you dont have to connect the one from wireless card
(i read a article about how to mod bluetooth inside, he get the usb port under the wireless card
which i think it's hard to do it)

the other side of this usb port is harddrive, mine is 150, so i have sata harddrive on the other side
if you have 110, may look like different, but i dont know, you can try

connected this usb port to your USB hub
it will look like this from the other side of my netbook
also, placed it on the 3G slot

here is how it's looks like on top

and then comes the hardest part, which i dont like it
it's dig a hole on the top of the cover
it's takes me 1hr to do it , my dear God

i try to make it look perfect, so it's really not easy to do it
and trust me, that cover is hard to cut :(

ok, we almost done
next step is connect the Fingerprint reader and USB HUB
also, place it on the cover

ok, now, you can assember them together
and we done, WOW

one more picture, another point of view:)

Very well done. Amazing how we can find space to add devices to this little netbook.

Do we have to have Oreo's to do this project or is that a placement ad ;)

No really though, excellent job.

Genial, realmente asombroso, sacare tu idea de conectar un hub usb en el lugar que mencionas, dado que las demas paginas sacan cables del puerto del pci-e.

It has been said over and over that finger biometric scanners give a false sense of security and that it can be broken by obtaining your finger print from anything you touch (i.e. your computer). Mythbusters was able to get a artificial finger created out of silicone to work. There are also tutorials online how to break the biometric scanner. Not to mention that even with your passwords and biometric security your pc can still get information taken off of it using methods I will not describe here.
